Passover

We found the Racoons Passover idea really good so we decided to do the same activity. We will be decorating pillow cases to make our own prayer mats like the Jewish do. Can we ask you,as of next week,to bring in a plain pillow case that your child can decorate. Ali

Hi Kay

Will dig my old pillowcases out!!

Just a thought, is the nursery doing anything to celebrate Easter apart from the bonnet parade? Easter is one of the most (if not the most) important Christian religious festivals and I think it would be good to tell the children what it is about - not just chocolate and easter bunnies!!!

Thanks,
Carla

Hi Carla,

Thank you for you response, you are completely right we have become caught up in the commercialised side of Easter and we could better communicate the true meaning of Easter to the children. This week we will be supporting the children in understanding the true meaning of Easter through reading the story of Easter, and engaging in creative activities such as making crowns to celebrate Jesus and his life as the King of all Kings.
Also for future celebrations we will be looking to extend the children’s knowledge through visiting places of worship and helping the children to understand the story of all festivals rather than just using the modern day approach to these important festivals.

Thank you again for your feedback and any ideas on how to help us celebrate would be warmly welcomed. .

Have a lovely Easter

Hi there,
I'm also pleased to hear that the children will learn a little more about religious festivals.  Here at home (and an Easter 'tradition' that seems more common in Scotland) we have always boiled eggs and then painted/decorated them at Easter before rolling them down a big hill.  Nathaniel got to do one of these at home over the weekend but is perhaps something the children at nursery could get involved in too?  The idea behind this is that the eggs are a symbol of rebirth and the rolling symbolises rolling the stone away from the tomb. It would also be a non-commercialised way of finishing off an Easter parade with the children.
