What the Racoons have been doing this week.

by Kay Folland 18. February 2010 14:17

This week in the Racoons all the children are responding well to positive changes, every child is allocated a job that is their own responsibility throughout the day. This is helping the children to realise certain things about holding responsibly and things need taking care of it. This helps the children feel valued and also helps them grow their self esteem through independence.

You may have noticed our new parent notice board this is with all our room information on.

This board shows who is the key person is and key children.

The planning involved for that week, what activities and area of learning this covers. Also there is a general routine for the day.

Also this week the children have been discussing their much loved story

“The Gruffalo” this has stretched the children’s imagination to the point they will be making their own books based on their knowledge of “The Gruffalo”. Then the children want to further their ideas and wish to turn their books into a play.

Although this may take some time, the children are very much looking forward to creating their own play.  I will keep you up dated on how the play progresses.

I'm loving the new things in the Raccoons.  The parent noticeboard is great (although I didn't get as much chance to see it as I'd have liked due to my demanding daughter) and I love knowing so much about what's going on.
I also think it's great that the children all have little jobs to do - all great preparation for the next stage in their life (i.e. school).
You're doing a great job in there Kay, keep it up!  No pressure!  Wink

Kay,
I think the changes that you have brought into the Racoons are fantastic!
It is so nice to go into the room and be presented with the bright new wall displays and also to see relevant topical items on the boards that my child has contributed to.
Niamh has reacted very well to the changes, and it is lovely to hear her discussing what she has done during the day instead of the usual "nothing" response.
Please keep up the good work, we all really appreciate it!

I too agree with the other comments. It is great to have a display board in the room.  Amber out of the blue told me how she had a job to do and she was very proud of her role. I look forward to seeing how the Gruffalo project develops.

Well done Kay.

I think the changes are fantastic. Oliver enjoys the day much more and talks about what he has done in the day. He even wants us to do some of the things at home and talks about The Gruffalo when we read to him. Well done on all of your hard work and keep the changes coming!

Many thanks to Kay for all the hard work she has put into getting the Raccoons changed so quickly.  The room is really taking shape and you can see what is going on and it's great to know Nate is being challenged. Today I saw an electronic photo frame and child laptop for creative and fun - so good to see you are investing in the children. Nate loves his 'tasks'... more please.

Thank you for all the lovely comments. I had a great first week in the Racoons and many more to come.
I will keep you informed of the progress with the ‘Gruffalo’ project.

The children have responded really well to the jobs, I will be displaying these for the children to see on the jobs board.

Will keep you updated each week what we are doing by our blogs.

Thank you all again

Hi Kay

Many thanks for your friendliness and I can see that Temi is enjoying herself in her new environment. I think that she will enjoy making a play in the future. It is really good that the children get repsonsibilities too. I think that she has enjoyed dishing up her food too. I like the parents board and also the reward hands that the children have too.

I would like to say thank you to the team for bringing such a positive change to the Racoons in such a short time. I think Kay and Lizzie will be able to give the children some memorable times in there over the next few months. I would also like to say that Riley announced to us today that..."I don't like nursery......(paused, then smiled) I love nursery!!!!

Andrea, that is the cutest thing ever! Makes it all worthwhile when you know your child enjoys their time apart from you, doesn't it?

I agree with everyone's comments, I think the changes in the room in such a    short period of time are fantastic !!  Well done for all your hard work.  I think the notice board is a great idea, especially where the parents can see what the children have achieved.  Jamie was full of it today, after having had the 'Gruffalo Tea Party', he spoke about it for ages when he got home, he appears to be more enthusiastic than normal which is greatSmile I also really appreciate the feedback that I'm receiving as it helps me to praise Jamie & also work on other areas at home as well.  Thanks again.  I'm sooo looking forward to seeing the play next Friday!
