After our most recent Parent Group, we are pleased to let you know that we are have changed the wording of the Medicine Policy so we can now give non-perscription medication. The wording of the policy, is
"Our Welfare Requirements state we will not usually administer non-prescription medication, however it is understood within these that there is some allowance in this. It is our preference that all medication is prescribed but we understand that this is not always possible. We will only give a non-prescribed medicine if we have received prior written consent from the parent and only when we believe there is a health reason to do so. This can mean that the key worker refuses to administer the medication. We will administer a medicine for the maximum period of time as stated on the box, usually three days, after this we will ask for a prescription. We will not give cough medication or medicines containing aspirin or ibuprofen unless it is prescribed by a doctor. If a medicine is ongoing we will need doctor’s notes confirming treatment by renewal every six months. Homeopathic medication is treated as non prescribed medication. A letter must be provided by the homeopath indicating how and when to administer the product and dosage. All medication paperwork must be completed."
