Hello!
Karan here reporting from the Cuddly Cubs
Down in the baby room we have been looking at counting today. As we are playing we have been counting out our toys and counting how many children we have in the room. We also sang two of our favourite songs. Songs are an easy way to introduce the children to numbers and their fun to! You could try out these simple songs at home with your child to see how they react and if they try to join in!
Three little men in a flying saucer (hold up three fingers and wiggle them around)
Flew around the world one day, (fly the fingers above your head in a circular motion)
He looked left and right, (turn your head to the left and right)
But he didn’t like the sight, (shake your head back and forth)
So this man flew away! WOOOOOOSH! (Lift both hands in the air)
We then repeat this until we have no more little men left. Sometimes it is fun to change what you put in the flying saucer; the children’s own name often receives a giggle. We have also been looking at ourselves by pointing to our eyes, ears, nose, hands, fingers, toes and feet. The babies especially enjoy ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ and will often point to the different parts of their body. This encourages children to recognise their body parts and see themselves as individuals.
(Whilst singing this song you could point to the different body parts)
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes,
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes,
And eyes and ears
And mouth and nose,
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes!
Thank you very much for reading
Please let me know if you try any of these at home and how it went!
