Hello! Hayley here reporting from the Bouncing Bears!
I just wanted to let you all know about our exciting walk we went on last Wednesday to feed the ducks. We had lots of opportunities to explore the environment and the children did this by pointing at the different animals we spotted on the way. Some of our older children were even saying the names of the animals we saw and the noises they make, a particular favorite was ‘dog…woof woof’! A learning opportunity such as this one enabled the children to recognize different objects around them as well as being aware and commenting on their surroundings. After arriving at the pond the children were very eager to feed the ducks and so they helped to get the bread out of the bag. The children tried very hard to tear the bread and throw it towards the ducks and some of the younger children were quite happy eating the bread instead! It was a very social experience for them, helping to develop their sharing skills and communicating with each other about the ducks.
Afterwards we took a slow walk to the park and this is where we were able to really develop our gross motor skills by running, jumping and climbing. The slide and swings were very popular and we took turns waiting for our friends to finish before we could have a turn. It was very wet on this particular day and so the rain drops enabled language such as ‘drip’, ‘splash’ and ‘wet’ to be used. We even managed to get very dizzy on a roundabout they had there and had lots of fun running around in circles. After the park we decided to head back to nursery to have our lunch. The main aim of the outing was to help enable the children to learn about their environment and where and how the animals live. We also got to see how the trees change in autumn. This outing covered their personal, social and emotional development (P.S.E.D) which was ‘to explore the environment with new interests’
