New toys in the Bears

by Angela Maynard 23. October 2009 09:21

What a fun-filled and action packed time we've been having in Bouncing Bears this week. As many of you are already aware, the children enjoyed a very eventful day at the park on Wednesday (which im sure you will read about in Hayley's follow up blog).

Upon our return we had recieved a delivery to the nursery which the children were very keen for Hayley to open. Their little eyes didn't move from the parcel until they had discovered exactly what was inside. There were 'whoops' of delight, when the children realised that it was a new activity tunnel. This is something that we were able to purchase amongst other items with 'Sainsburys active kids' vouchers, that were donated by all of our nursery families. A very big thankyou to all of you as without your support and generousity we wouldn't have been able to achieve this.

Anyway getting back to the subject, the children were even more eager for Hayley and I to put it together. However seeing that there were no instructions, this took a little longer than anticipated (not a good idea when there are six excited children watching you.) Finally after much deliberation and head scratching, we finally managed it. Then the fun really began, I have to say the tunnel is excellent fun for the children (not so much for Hayley and I as we had difficulty getting it out again).

The children loved crawling through the tunnel and popping their heads through the hole in the middle. Some of them decided to play hide and seek with each other by hiding in different parts of the tunnel and then trying to seek out their friends. One of the children sat inside it, as i tried to crawl through. We had fun rolling a ball backwards and forwards to each other. This activity really encouraged the children to interact with each other and play as part of a group. It also helped them to develop their imaginations as they introduced other resources such as a ball to extend their play in the tunnel. Aswell as this it also provided them with the opportunity to use their problem solving skills, by working out which tunnel to go through, to find their friends.

On the whole this is an activity that went very well with the children and one which I am sure we will be repeating very soon.

Have a great weekend

Angela and Hayley
