I have recently been reading and taking notes from the 'nursery world magazine', The nursery world magazine provides us practiotioners all over the country with infromation based on the latest curriculum 'EYFS' (early years foundation stage).
I have come across a section in the magazine encouraging 'rough and tumble' Rough and tumble has many benifits for your child anf their development, when rough and tumble is safely practiced the benifits can really be seen.
Rough and tumble involves, rolling, wrestling, pushing, pulling, full body contact ,dodginf and falling. Any worries about falling can be settled as it is an important life skill that requires balance and control. F alling will enable children to risk assess situations themselves. Falling enables children to respond to different physical envioronments. Falling is a skill that needs to be repeated to be mastered.
If safety pops into mind this will be accounted for, common sense, risk assesment and knowing the child and thier boundries is all very improtant and will prevent any accidents from happening.
Space will be made as suitable for rough and tumble and supervision will be accounted for ata ll times.
Rough and tumble helps develop mind and body, involving touch, effort, smell, sight and sound. It will help your child with problem solving, speech and language, listening and relating to others and it will also help your child develop a sense of self and teach them how to stand their ground.
If you have any questions, concerns or would like to put your thaughts across , please feel free to leave a comment and ill get back to you a.s.a.p
